Portrait Photography in Tokyo’s Hidden Crystal Room

This space is a famous spot for many instagrammers who reside in Japan. The room is like a maze that is surrounded by 9500 crystal sculptures. The room is dark so taking a picture of your friend or partner might be difficult. We advise that you place them near the lighted crystals as to expose the face and let the shadows fall into place.

The room is located inside a temple which in turn is located in a very touristy area of Tokyo. Although the area is famous for a different temple, many tourists overlook or don’t know about this space, hence making this a hidden photography spot in Tokyo.

Having a model stand in your pictures not only makes the picture more interesting but also gives the image a sense of scale.

The corridor is a maze-like path displaying the little light sculptures. The corridor is only lit by these sculptures so having the ISO higher than usual is inevitable.
Although this spot is located inside a temple, the space is strikingly modern in design and brings to mind the chic boutique stores in more touristy areas of Tokyo. As mentioned before the room is a maze, with narrow pathways twisting. And on all the walls are crystals that glow. The crystals are believed to protect the temple from any harm and bad doings. There are not many people and is rarely crowded making this place a good place to shoot portraits.
